Scripture: “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.” Genesis 1:27
Turning Point: Everyone is creative – no exceptions. The words “creativity” and “originality” are synonyms. Creativity results from originality of thought or expression. Wikipedia states, “Although popularly associated with art and literature, it is also an essential part of innovation and invention and is important in professions such as business, economics, architecture, industrial design, graphic design, advertising, mathematics, music, science and engineering, and teaching.” The key to creativity is a willingness to be original.
God is The Creator. So, does it not make sense that one of the ways you are most godlike is your wholesome creative expression, whatever form that may take? Creativity inspires through a multitude of forms and expressions. Many people recognize God’s grandeur and majesty in nature. The creative aspect of God is what helps me see that God is alive and active in our world today. I see God in the positive, inspiring, and fresh ideas of others, from the technological genius of a medical procedure, to a beautiful piano concerto. Think about some of your favorite things. Isn’t their originality the thing that attracts?
Let me tell you about my friend Wendy DiNicola. She created the Higher Choices Compass cover art, and this meditation drawing. Wendy knows her mission – “to communicate and inspire creative ideas through fine art and other art forms, in a stimulating and nurturing environment.” Her art presents an astonishingly unique perspective of familiar objects and scenes. Wendy’s work reveals her humor, wit, and sense of beauty. It no only shows me something about the world I otherwise would not see, it inspires me to be creative also. Of course, I simply enjoy being able to look at it every day! Although Wendy is an artist, she is also creative in parenting, working with children, decorating her home, and running a business. She is authentic in all endeavors.
Find your joy by allowing your originality to guide your choices. Whether it is your approach to problem-solving, home decorating, or organizing the church music library, your original flair brings something to the world that was not there before. Let others benefit by seeing the world through your eyes.
“I learned from her and others like her that a first-rate soup is more creative than a second-rate painting, and that, generally, cooking or parenthood or making a home could be creative while poetry need not be; it could be uncreative.” – Abraham H. Maslow

Ask – questions to discover the direction God would suggest you take.
1. What do you consider to be most original about you?
2. Is something you do on a regular basis you never really thought was particularly creative, but perhaps it really is?
3. What unique way might you serve others if you dared to let your creativity shine?
